STREET LIGHTING PROJECT TO BOOST SECURITY AND TRADE ALONG MAZABUKA–MONZE ROAD
The Road Development Agency (RDA) is installing street lights at strategic locations under the periodic maintenance of the Mazabuka–Monze Road.
Beneficiary areas include the Monze Central Business District (2 km), Rusangu University, Tandabale in Magoye, and Kaleya in Mazabuka District.
RDA Southern Provincial Roads Engineer Namalala Chilala said the lights are being installed in high-activity trading centres to improve security and support economic activities, in line with the Government's 24-hour economy agenda.
The street lighting forms part of the approximately K700 million road project, which also includes the construction of a 5.2 km access road to Rusangu University from the T1 Road.
The works are being carried out by Kaijee Construction.
The RDA has urged the public to protect the infrastructure from vandalism and theft by reporting incidents to the Provincial RDA Office in Choma.
Eng. Chilala noted that the Public Roads Act provides for the prosecution of offenders and recovery of damages, emphasizing that community support is key to preserving the infrastructure and ensuring it continues to enhance security and economic growth.
