Pule Urges Opposition to Accept Election Outcome and Support National Reconciliation

 

LUSAKA — Christian Democratic Party president Professor Daniel Pule has urged opposition political leaders to respect the outcome of the 2026 general election and allow the country to move forward.

Professor Pule said challenging the election results could delay national reconciliation and undermine efforts to promote unity, peace and development.

He cautioned that, given the prevailing political atmosphere, a prolonged electoral dispute could create unnecessary tension, disturb public order and place innocent citizens at risk.

In a statement released to Media, Professor Pule said the Christian Democratic Party, having participated in the elections, was satisfied that Zambians had expressed their choice through the ballot by retaining President-elect Hakainde Hichilema for a second term.

He congratulated President Hichilema on his victory in the general and presidential elections and called on political parties to respect the will of the electorate.

Professor Pule said Zambia needed healing and reconciliation, urging political leaders to place the interests of the country above personal or partisan considerations.

He said the conclusion of the election campaigns should mark the beginning of a renewed national commitment to rebuilding the country and addressing the challenges affecting citizens.

“The campaigns are now over. Zambia is bigger than any individual or political party, and the focus must now shift towards building the country,” Professor Pule said.

He appealed to Zambians to put political differences aside, unite and contribute towards national development.

Professor Pule reaffirmed the Christian Democratic Party’s commitment to supporting a peaceful, united and prosperous Zambia.
