Mundubile Alleges Electoral Interference Ahead of August Polls

NCHELENGE, Zambia — National Revolutionary Party–United Party (NRPUP) presidential candidate Brian Mundubile has alleged that the Local Government Commission is interfering in the electoral process ahead of the August general elections.

Speaking during a political rally in Nchelenge District, Mundubile accused the commission of engaging in activities that he claimed could influence the outcome of the elections. He alleged that the commission has been holding daily meetings, which he described as illegal and intended to manipulate the electoral process.

Mundubile further claimed that public resources were being misused to facilitate the meetings, arguing that taxpayer funds should not be used for activities he believes compromise the credibility of the electoral process.

"The institutions of government must remain impartial and uphold the principles of fairness and transparency throughout the electoral period," he told supporters during the rally.

The allegations come as political parties intensify their campaigns ahead of the August polls, with calls for credible, peaceful, and transparent elections continuing to dominate public discourse.

The Local Government Commission had not publicly responded to Mundubile's allegations at the time of publication.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has consistently emphasized the importance of peaceful campaigns and adherence to electoral laws by all stakeholders, while encouraging political parties to use the appropriate legal channels to raise any concerns relating to the conduct of the elections.

Political analysts note that allegations involving public institutions often increase during election periods, underscoring the need for transparency, accountability, and public confidence in democratic processes.

As Zambia prepares for the general elections, attention remains focused on ensuring that all electoral stakeholders—including political parties, government institutions, observers, and citizens—play their respective roles in promoting free, fair, and credible elections.

Any allegations of electoral misconduct or administrative interference are expected to be investigated through the relevant legal and institutional mechanisms to safeguard the integrity of the country's democratic process.
