The Los Angeles fire situation is currently critical, with multiple wildfires burning across the region. The Palisades Fire, which started on January 7, 2025, is one of the most concerning, with extreme fire behavior and winds gusting up to 60 MPH. As of the latest update, the fire has burned 1,262 acres, with 0% containment.
Evacuation orders are in place for several zones, including LOS-Q0767, MAL-C111-A, and TOP-U001, among others. An evacuation center has been set up at the Westwood Recreation Center. Road closures are also in effect, including the closure of Pacific Coast Highway at Las Flores Canyon Rd and Topanga Canyon Boulevard.
The situation is being closely monitored by state and federal officials, with Governor Gavin Newsom securing a Major Disaster Declaration from President Biden to support response efforts. The declaration makes available federal assistance funding to help cover emergency response costs and provides individual assistance programs for affected citizens and businesses.
The National Weather Service has issued a Particularly Dangerous Situation Fire Weather Warning for the Los Angeles area, with forecasters warning of a "life-threatening, destructive, widespread windstorm" expected to hit the region.
